FPG Case Study: Starbucks
Coaching for success
January 2008
The challenge
Starbucks wanted to deliver an advanced coaching programme to their HR and Learning & Development community to take their existing coaching abilities to the next level. The aim was to build individuals' confidence so that they were suitably-equipped to conduct much deeper coaching conversations at all levels and thus create real change within the business as a first step towards embedding this change over the longer term.
The solution
To work with Starbucks to design and deliver an in-depth, challenging, advanced coaching programme to explore the role of the coach and the essential, and sometimes very subtle, coaching skills and techniques required to support real and sustained behaviour change.
The programme included a formalised coaching practice session for the delegates with real HR clients. 360° questionnaires and high-quality catalytic feedback from the FPG coaches were used to measure progress and improve individual performance.
The results
Starbucks is witnessing an improvement in the quantity and quality of coaching interventions happening across the business with HR leaders demonstrating an increased confidence in their abilities to coach.
“’Coaching for Success' has been revelational! The calibre of Full Potential Group’s coaches ensured that delegates learnt a lot about coaching from genuine experts but were also challenged to look closely at their current behaviour patterns and comfort zones. An effective, exciting, yet exhausting programme!”
